Monks Building a Healing White Tara Sand Mandala at OUMA

Tibetan
monks perform Black Hat Dance, Mandala Opening Ceremony,
Nov. 9, 2002
|
In the Museum's South Gallery, monks
from Drepung Loseling Monastery have begun creating a mandala
sand painting of the healing female buddha White (Sita) Tara.
The mandala will be completed on December 21st. On the afternoon
of November 9th, the monks performed the Black Hat Dance,
sacred chanting, and special ceremonies for the purpose of
consecrating the mandala site.
OUMA welcomes visitors who wish to
watch the mandala creation process unfold in the Museum's
South Gallery, daily between 1:30
and 5:00 pm, except Mondays. The Museum is open Tuesdays
through Sundays, 12:00-5:00 pm. (Hours will be extended
on days which include special evening events.)
The mandala creation and all
associated events are being held at OUMA in conjunction with
our current exhibition The
Female Buddha: Women of Enlightenment in Tibetan Mysticism.

O'Keeffe Museum Shows Todd Webb's "The Artist's
Landscape"
|
Georgia
O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico recently exhibited
Todd Webb's highly acclaimed photographs of his friend, artist
Georgia O'Keeffe. Taken between 1955 and 1981 at O'Keeffe's
Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch houses, these photographic images
provide a remarkably intimate view of one artist as seen through
the eyes of another. The Santa Fe exhibition included the
same collection of photos featured in the 1995 exhibit at
OUMA, Georgia
O'Keeffe: The Artist's Landscape, during which Todd Webb
visited the Museum. Webb died in April 2000 at the age of
94.
