The
Flying Mystics Arrive at OUMA
|
Oglethorpe University Museum
of Art is currently hosting the exhibition The
Flying Mystics of Tibetan Buddhism, featuring Tibetan
art of various media which depicts the literary and oral
legacy of levitation and flight among Tibetan mystics.
The exhibition, which will
be on display in both galleries through August 8, 2004,
includes works from important private collections including
the Rubin
Museum of Art, New York, and is accompanied by a book
authored by curator and Tibetologist Glenn H. Mullin.

Nick was named Lexus Leader of the Arts for June
2003 by Public Broadcasting Atlanta. Established in 1999 by
Public Broadcasting Atlanta in association with Atlanta area
Lexus dealers, this special award recognizes figures in our
community whose exemplary dedication to the arts has enriched
the cultural life of metropolitan Atlanta. The first award in
January of 1999 went to Kenny Leon and Elton John for their
collaboration in the production of "Aida" at the Alliance
Theater, which then moved to its Broadway success.

Zen
No Sho Exhibition Brings World Renowned Calligrapher
and Zen Master to OUMA
|

Between February 25 and May 11,
2003, Oglethorpe University Museum of Art presented the first-ever
exhibition of the calligraphy of Fukushima
Roshi, head abbot of Japan's Tofukuji Monastery and venerable
Zen Master.
Fukushima Roshi launched the exhibition
of his works with three very special events, including a live
calligraphy demonstration to a standing-room-only audience,
followed by a half-day Zen meditation session and evening
Zen lecture.

Dr. Jason Wirth, Associate Professor of Philosophy, and chair
of the Division of Philosophy, Communications and
Fine Arts at Oglethorpe University, has edited the Zen
No Sho exhibition catalog, available for purchase
at the Museum Gift Shop, and also now available from our online
