The Oglethorpe University Museum gift shop is Atlanta’s best-kept secret for jewelry, books, gifts and accessories. Like the museum, which offers curated art, we offer a carefully curated collection of works designed by local artists. We believe that gifts and possessions are extensions of one’s psyche and enjoy collecting beautiful things that come with interesting stories to share with you.
The OUMA gift shop is currently featuring Spiritiles by local Atlanta artist Houston Llew. Llew apprenticed under an accomplished Santa Fe artist named Zingaro where he mastered a luminous art medium of glass fired to copper. Each Spiritile Llew creates is a unique tile with a beautiful visual representation of a profound and inspiring quote. These tiles are great when hung on the wall or standing on a table. They are sure to enlighten your décor and your life.
Also featured in the gift shop is a series of pottery by Dr. Seema Shrikhande, an associate Communications and Rhetoric Studies professor at Oglethorpe University. To the professor, pottery is a rewarding mode of artistic expression:
“When I sit at the wheel, I forget everything else and become completely absorbed in making my piece. Working with clay is both challenging and rewarding because it forces me to work a different part o my brain. I am fascinated by how a block of clay transforms into something aesthetic and useful. I make functional pieces that people can use because I want these pieces to be handled and enjoyed everyday.”
Seema’s pottery is all uniquely handcrafted and ready to be picked up and enjoyed in your household.
When you visit the OUMA gift shop, we know that you’ll enjoy the items as much as we enjoyed picking them out for you.
