"My Viejito Lindo" by Montserrat Olvera Hernandez '23

This mixed media painting portrays my grandfather who was recently taken away from us this past year due to COVID. The significance of this artwork goes out to everyone who can relate to the passing of a loved one through these hard times. Inspired by artists such as Emerson Cooper, Elliot Hundley, and Takashi Murakami, this abstract artwork is torn into and connected with an orange yarn that signifies Marigolds, the traditional Mexican flower offered on the Day of the Dead.
