This reimagining of the OUMA permanent collection challenges assumptions, upends stereotypes and inspires conversation! Interactive, inquisitive and decidedly unusual, we have carefully paired seemingly disparate objects to foster a refreshingly new way to consider art. More than 30 works of art are on view, representing a wide array of media, styles and time periods. The gallery is organized around various themes, including Georgia Made, Untitled and Unknown, Anger and Wrath, Emblems, and Childhood.

Additionally, there are direct references to and quotes from the dozens of texts utilized in Oglethorpe University’s Core Program. The Core is unique in the liberal arts landscape as a four-year series of foundational classes that bring students into conversation with topics of identity, community, history, myth, memory, global citizenship and engagement. The program enhances student reflection, critical thinking and effective communication. As a 36-credit series of courses, the Core is as robust in scope as that of a major program. Students who complete the Core are flexible learners, excellent writers, motivated leaders and highly creative individuals.

We invite you to engage your own dialogue with the collections and share your comments. There are meditation spaces with blackboards and various other areas designed to give you the room to sit, reflect and jot down thoughts and images in response. Join the conversation!
