This exhibition highlights selected works from the permanent collection of Oglethorpe University Museum of Art that align with current course offerings. The goal of the museum’s permanent collection is to benefit our students and faculty by utilizing the collection’s pedagogical value and to bring the classroom into the museum.

This year OUMA celebrates the remarkable acquisition of Edgar Degas’ Femme nue assise, s’essuyant thanks to the ongoing generosity of Drs. Isaac and Yolanta Melamed. In this same year we mourn the loss and celebrate the life of Oglethorpe University alumna Belle Turner Lynch (’61, H’10) who was the first woman to chair University’s Board of Trustees. Her love of the arts was memorialized in the recent donation of Clement Quinton’s Landscape with Shepherdess and Herd. Shanequa Gay’s, La Pietà remains on view at OUMA as the university continues to strengthen its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through the direct support and advocacy of our OUMA Student Diversity Committee.
