The Oglethorpe University Museum of Art (OUMA) will once again join museums nationwide in the annual Blue Star Museums program, which offers free admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families throughout the summer.
Blue Star Museums is a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families in collaboration with the Department of Defense and participating museums across America.
The 2024 program will begin on Armed Forces Day (Saturday, May 18) and end on Labor Day (Monday, September 2).
Current OUMA exhibitions “Contrapunto: Works by a Contemporary Latin American Artist Collective” will be on view through May 19; “The Core Self” and “Oglethorpe’s Own: Illisa McGowin ’25” through August 11; and “OUMA Collects 2024: Highlights from the Collection” through August 18.
This summer’s “The Gaze“—an exhibition highlighting artists with disabilities—will open on July 12 and run through December 1, 2024.
The Oglethorpe University Museum of Art is dedicated to providing a robust museum experience to all its patrons. Focusing particularly on accessibility, the museum frequently works with organizations like Blue Star Families to welcome anyone interested in the arts through its doors.
The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), or a DD Form 1173‐1 ID card, which includes active duty U.S. military—Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps—and up to five family members.
